Activities for families
At the Deutsche Oper Berlin, early childhood cultural education is a top priority. This is unique among Berlin’s opera houses. We firmly believe that cultural engagement cannot start early enough! We take our young audience seriously right from the start, sparking their curiosity, stimulating their sensory perception and inviting children and their carers to immerse themselves in worlds of sound and experience them up close.

Regularly on Saturday afternoons, the doors leading backstage are opened to children accompanied by adults. Where are the large stage sets stored? What does the orchestra pit look like? And what does it feel like to stand on the main stage? This glimpse behind the scenes gives an insight into how opera is made and all the people involved in putting on a performance.
Cost
€5.00 per person / Bookings coming soon
Children and their carers – parents, grandparents or anyone else who is part of the family – have the opportunity to explore the opera house in a way that is suitable for their age and free of charge, to take part in musical workshops, and to attend rehearsals and musical theatre productions for children. In collaboration with family centres and the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf Music School, children and adults are given their first glimpse of the opera, both on and off stage. For anyone new to the opera with children aged 0–6.
Dates from autumn 2026 in cooperation with participating family centres and partners.
